Google announced quite a lot of new search features during Searchology 2009 conference. Google Squared was one of the highly spoken ones and has finally gone live today. Cannot understand why everyone is launching their products when it’s still in the test phase. Google says: “This technology is by no means perfect. That’s why we designed Google Squared to be conversational, enabling you to respond to the initial result and get a better answer”. I would ask the question why launch an un-tested product, just because Microsoft launched their new search engine update.
What is Google Squared?
Usually when users search for information on search engines they are presented with a list of websites they need to visit to find the information you are looking for. Sometimes you get the appropriate information quickly. But not all your information needs are that simple. Some questions can be more complex, requiring you to visit ten, perhaps twenty websites to research and collect what you need.
This is where Google squared comes into action and presents information you are looking for in a table format for you to review. Google Squared is a first step towards solving that challenge. It essentially searches the web to find the types of facts you might be interested in, extracts them and presents them in a meaningful way.
Check out the video presentation of Google Squared launch. It’s really basic and does not give any explanation of the benefits.
